🍰 Food & Drinks term
Home-based business
A small business run from the owner’s home, such as a home baker or home cook. Some Shiokly food vendors are home-based, so their orders are often made in small batches.
Why it matters
Home-based sellers often cook or bake in small batches, so stock can be limited and timings more personal than at a shop.
🇸🇬 In Singapore
Many of Singapore’s home bakers and cooks run small food businesses from HDB flats and private homes under the HDB/URA Home-based Business Scheme. These businesses do not need an SFA food shop licence, so it is worth checking each seller’s listing for how and where the food is prepared.
Tips before you buy
- Order early for weekends and festive periods.
- Check whether the seller offers delivery or only self-collection from a residential address.
- Ask about ingredients or allergens directly if they are not listed.
