💻 Electronics term

SSD

Solid-state drive: fast storage with no moving parts. It makes start-up and loading much quicker than an older hard disk.

Why it matters

An SSD is one of the biggest upgrades for speed, making start-up, loading and file transfers much quicker.

🇸🇬 In Singapore

Replacing an old hard drive with an SSD is one of the most cost-effective ways to speed up an older PC. When you replace drives, wipe your data first and recycle old storage at an NEA e-waste point.

Tips before you buy

  • Choose enough capacity for your games and files.
  • Pair a fast SSD with a larger hard drive for storage.
  • Avoid older machines with only a hard drive unless you will upgrade.
