💻 Electronics term
GPU
Graphics processing unit, or graphics card. It renders images and video and matters most for gaming and creative work.
Why it matters
For gaming, the GPU has the biggest effect on frame rates, resolution and visual settings.
🇸🇬 In Singapore
Graphics cards run hot under load, and rooms without air-conditioning in Singapore can make that worse. Check the case has good airflow and clean dust filters regularly.
Tips before you buy
- Check benchmarks for the games you play.
- Look at video memory for higher resolutions.
- Make sure your power supply and case can fit it.
