🍰 Food & Drinks term

Made to order

An item that is only prepared after you place your order, rather than taken from ready stock. Common for cakes, catering and custom items.

Why it matters

Because nothing is made until you order, you get a fresher item and often some room to customise, but you need to plan ahead.

🇸🇬 In Singapore

Made-to-order demand spikes around Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Deepavali, Christmas and Mother’s Day, when bakers and caterers often close orders early once they are fully booked.

Tips before you buy

  • Check the lead time on the listing before you buy.
  • Put dates and special requests in the order notes.
  • Confirm changes early, as work may start soon after you order.
