🏠 Household term

Reverse osmosis

A water filtration method that pushes water through a very fine membrane. It removes much more than a basic filter but produces waste water and needs installation.

Why it matters

RO removes much more than a basic filter, but it costs more, takes space and produces waste water.

🇸🇬 In Singapore

Because Singapore’s tap water already meets drinking water standards, reverse osmosis is a choice rather than a need for most homes. Weigh the space, installation and waste water against the benefits.

Tips before you buy

  • Check cabinet space and installation needs.
  • Ask about maintenance and membrane replacement.
  • Get landlord approval if you rent.
