🏠 Household term

Digital lock

A door lock opened with a PIN, fingerprint, card or app instead of, or as well as, a key.

Why it matters

Digital locks add convenience and can replace keys, but fit and installation vary between doors.

🇸🇬 In Singapore

Many Singapore homes, including HDB flats, have fire-rated main doors. SCDF advises that only certified hardware should be installed on fire-rated doors, and you can check with HDB or your MCST if you are unsure.

Tips before you buy

  • Check compatibility with your door and gate.
  • Ask about battery life and backup entry.
  • Confirm installation and warranty details.
