🤝 Selling & Business term
Lead generation
Finding people or businesses who might buy from you and getting their interest or contact details. A lead is a potential customer. Lead generation is often followed by appointment setting in B2B sales.
Common questions
What’s the difference between a lead and a qualified lead?
A lead has shown some interest or matches your target customer. A qualified lead has been checked for need, budget and timing, so they are more likely to buy.
Do consumer businesses need lead generation?
Consumer businesses usually think in terms of enquiries and orders rather than leads. Getting found where shoppers search, through listings, Google and reviews, does the same job.
Is buying leads a good idea?
Be careful. Bought contact lists are often out of date, and contacting people in Singapore must comply with the PDPA, including the Do Not Call rules.
Why it matters
More leads only help if they turn into customers. For small businesses, a smaller number of enquiries from people already searching for your product is usually worth more.
🇸🇬 In Singapore
B2B lead generation is usually bundled with SDR outreach and appointment setting by sales outsourcing firms. For consumer products, enquiries mostly come from WhatsApp, marketplaces and Google.
Tips
- Measure enquiries and orders, not just leads.
- Respond to new enquiries quickly.
- Follow PDPA rules when contacting people.
