Hydrostatic head

A rating, in millimetres, of how waterproof a tent or jacket fabric is. Higher numbers mean better resistance to rain.

Why it matters

The rating helps you compare how well tents and jackets will cope with Singapore’s heavy downpours.

🇸🇬 In Singapore

Camping in Singapore’s parks requires an NParks permit, and sudden heavy rain is common. A tent with a good hydrostatic head rating and a proper rainfly helps you stay dry.

Tips before you buy

  • Higher numbers resist more water pressure.
  • Check seams and zips as well as fabric.
  • Combine with good ventilation for humid nights.
