How to Get Your Products on Google Shopping for Free in Singapore

Person scrolling through online shopping results on a phone

When a shopper searches Google for “burnt cheesecake Singapore” or “halal mini buffet”, product results with photos and prices often appear at the top. Many small businesses assume those are paid ads. Most can be free. Google’s free listings let eligible sellers show products on Google Shopping, Search, Images and more at no cost, and Singapore is a supported country. This guide explains what free listings are, what you need, how to set them up and the mistakes that get products rejected.

In short

  • Free listings are real and available in Singapore: products can appear on the Shopping tab, Google Search, Images, Lens and YouTube without paying for ads.
  • You need a product page on a website: a Google Merchant Center account, a verified website and product data such as title, price, image and availability.
  • Instagram alone isn’t enough: Google needs a product page to send shoppers to. A marketplace that feeds Google can provide one.
  • Placement isn’t guaranteed: Google matches products to searches based on the quality of your data and photos.

What are Google free listings?

Free listings are Google’s unpaid product results. According to Google’s Merchant Center Help, the free listings setting “controls permission to show products for free across Google”, and it “doesn’t guarantee that your products will be shown to customers.” Google decides when to show them based on how well your product matches a search.

Free listings can appear on:

  • The Shopping tab, where shoppers compare products and click through to your page
  • Google Search, as rich results with price and availability
  • Google Images and Google Lens, with a product label
  • YouTube, in some countries

Paid Shopping ads are separate. You can use free listings without ever running an ad.

What you need before you start

  • A website with a page for each product. Google sends shoppers to a product page, so an Instagram profile or WhatsApp catalogue on its own won’t work.
  • A Google Merchant Center account, which is free.
  • A verified and claimed website in Merchant Center, to prove you own the site.
  • Product data for every item. Google requires an ID, title, link, image link, price, description and availability, plus other attributes in some cases, such as brand or condition.
  • A return policy and shipping or delivery details, which Google asks you to provide in Merchant Center.

How to set up free listings, step by step

  1. Create a Merchant Center account and add your business details.
  2. Verify and claim your website using one of the methods Merchant Center offers.
  3. Add your products. Small shops can add products manually. Online stores such as WooCommerce or Shopify can connect a product feed that updates automatically.
  4. Set your return policy and delivery settings, including delivery costs and self-collection if you offer it.
  5. Check that free listings are switched on. Google says new Merchant Center accounts are opted in by default. You can confirm it under marketing methods.
  6. Fix anything flagged. Merchant Center lists products that “need attention”. Fix them and they can be approved.

How to get your products shown more often

  • Write descriptive titles. Say what it is, the key detail and the size: “Basque Burnt Cheesecake, 6 inch, Original” beats “Our best seller!!”.
  • Use clean photos. A plain background and the real product. Google’s image rules don’t allow promotional text, watermarks or borders on product images.
  • Keep prices and availability accurate. The price on Google must match your product page. Mismatches are one of the most common reasons for rejection.
  • Write a useful description with ingredients, portions and lead time, using the words buyers search for.
  • Organise products into clear categories. Google recommends a product type with at least three levels, such as Food > Cakes > Cheesecakes.

Common reasons products get rejected

  • Price or availability mismatch between the feed and the page
  • Images with text overlays, logos or watermarks
  • Missing product identifiers. Homemade and custom products don’t have barcodes, so they need to be marked as having no identifier rather than left blank.
  • Restricted products such as alcohol, which follow stricter rules
  • Missing return policy or contact details on the website

No website? Use a marketplace that feeds Google

Building a website, a product feed and a Merchant Center account is a lot of work for a home baker or a one-person studio. The shortcut is to list on a marketplace that already sends its products to Google.

Shiokly sends its product listings to Google Merchant Center, so a product listed on Shiokly can appear in Google Shopping, Images and Search as a free listing, with your photo, price and the Shiokly product page. We write the titles and descriptions, clean up photos to meet Google’s rules and fix any feed issues. You can see how it looks in a search result. As with any free listing, Google decides when and where products show.

FAQ

Are Google Shopping listings really free?

Yes, free listings cost nothing. Google also sells Shopping ads, which are paid and appear in sponsored spots. You can use free listings without running ads.

Is Google Shopping available in Singapore?

Yes. Singapore is on Google’s list of supported countries for free product listings.

Can I list products on Google Shopping without a website?

Not directly. Google needs a product page to send shoppers to. If you don’t have a website, you can list on a marketplace that sends its products to Google.

How long does it take for products to appear?

Products need to be reviewed and approved first, and Google notes that new sellers may take time to appear in relevant results. Placement is never guaranteed.
